Fourth graders are now ready to start their 3rd nine weeks of learning!
We will be studying equations, input/output tables, fractions and decimals, along with customary and metric measurements. We continue to work on problem solving, multiplication of larger numbers, and long division. Please continue to practice multiplication and division facts up through the 12s to meet promotion expectations. We will test for STAAR Math, on May 12th. |
We study reading skills as we explore different genres of reading. Our current focus is on poetry. We will also be practicing strategies for comparing and contrasting related paired passages.
We continue to have literature circles and small group instruction and study in the mornings. We will test for STAAR Reading on May 13th. |
We study the history of Texas through the study of the 4 major regions of Texas. We incorporate science in our studies, as it relates to each region as we study it.
Our current region of study is the Great Plains (including the Panhandle of Texas). The next will be the North Central Plains region. |
Your student will write in every subject, every day! Your fourth grader will be expected to be able to write an essay paper that rates a 3 or 4 on the Texas rubric for writing (you can see this by going to the TEA website, and search for 4th grade writing rubric). It is a standard set for high quality writing. Grammar and writing are tested at the end of the year on a STAAR test.
We have been writing opinion essays, in the expository format. Students will study and write different poetry formats this nine weeks. Students continue to practice revising and editing to hone their writing skills. |
